At Hollow Gesture Records, we're always drawn to artists and ideas that exist slightly beyond the edges of the spotlight. The overlooked, the unconventional and the quietly influential.
That spirit is perfectly reflected in The Cult Continuum, an ongoing series of essays written by M. Haiux, aka Matthew McPartlan, for the excellent Science & Magic publication, presented by Violette Records.
Across the series, Matthew explores cultural works, individuals and places that have endured through passion rather than popularity. Some are cult heroes, some are forgotten masterpieces and some are simply places or ideas that continue to resonate long after the mainstream has moved on. What connects them all is a certain independence of spirit: a refusal to fit neatly within the accepted narrative.

The French postman whose decades-long creation of the Palais Idéal remains one of the most extraordinary examples of visionary outsider art.
